The Myth
According to the myth, Zeus, the king of the gods, was angry with Prometheus for giving fire to humanity. As punishment, he ordered Hephaestus to create Pandora, a woman of stunning beauty, and gave her to Epimetheus, Prometheus' brother. Pandora was given a box by the gods, and she was instructed never to open it.
Overcome by curiosity, Pandora eventually opened the box, unleashing all the evils—such as sickness, death, and suffering—into the world. Realizing what she had done, she quickly closed the box, but only hope remained inside, offering humanity a way to cope with the newly released sorrows.
